Although I hoped for a social emotional curriculum to aid in classroom management, I did not think any existed; however, Conscious Discipline is a social emotional curriculum designed to educate the whole child and help children make better choices. Breathing is a huge part of the curriculum, as well as providing safe spaces (usually an area with a bean bag and box of calming tools, such as something to squeeze, glitter jar, poppers) in the classroom for children to learn self-regulation skills. Sounds a lot like yoga. Will Conscious Discipline solve all classroom management issues? May be. Will Conscious Discipline decrease a child’s inappropriate and/or unsafe behavior? May be. It just gives teachers more tools to use.
There is nothing cuter than a three-year old doing balloon breath.
